Shirley Pollock refers to herself and her husband, David, as amateur cultural anthropologists. Upon their graduation from the University of Virginia in 1968 the couple wed and honeymooned in the Peace Corps. After two years in Korea, they briefly returned to the States long enough to know Asia was calling. They answered the call, and spent the next eleven years there. Shirley gave birth to a son in the Philippines and a daughter in Singapore. Upon their return David accepted an offer by the Hyster Company of Portland to head up their operation in the United Kingdom. Ten years later the job was done, and the couple returned to the States making Portland their home.

After forty years of marriage on-the-go, Shirley has settled down in Portland devoting her time to causes she cares about. She is a member of the Assistance League of Portland and the Portland Garden Club. She serves as a fundraiser and a volunteer for Trillium Family Services and has been co-chair for the Children’s Charity Ball. She is a docent at the Portland Art Museum, and has worked as a speech pathologist and teacher of English as a Second Language. In her leisure time she enjoys golf, tennis, skiing and sailing. But, throughout the years one of Shirley’s passions has been dancing. The Assistance League of Portland is delighted to have Shirley as their representative on the dance floor.
